Detox your job!
If Detoxing is good enough for your body, then it's good enough to do the same thing with your job! This article gives you advice on how to make the changes that could really make you feel better about your job. Read on to find out how.

Your Annual Work Goals
Now is the right time for you to think ahead about exactly what you would like to achieve this year in your work. The obvious place to start is to make sure you are clear on the success measures that have been put in place for you by your boss. Thinking about these goals now will give you the time to make sure that you concentrate on doing what really needs to be done in your job, so that you will be successful as far as your boss is concerned over the coming year.

You should also be thinking about what would make your work successful for you over the coming year. To do this, take a little time to think about what you want to learn this year in your job, what new skills you could develop (that would therefore make you more employable) and perhaps what new people you might meet - for example clients or suppliers who could become a part of your network, or even your future employer.

Why You Do Your Job
This is also a good time of year for you to write down a list of exactly why you do your job. I know that the easy answer is "I don't know!" but even though your work may not be perfect, it's beneficial to remind yourself of the positive aspects of your job.

It might be because it's near to where you live and the commute doesn't take very long, or that you like your colleagues, the money gives you a comfortable standard of living or that you enjoy certain aspects of your job. No positive reason, no matter how small, is worth leaving off your list!

Do Things Differently
Another way to make your job less toxic and stressful is to take a few minutes to think about, and then write down, all the routines and habits that you've built into your work that may not be making your life easy.

These could be things like leaving home a few minutes later than ideal so that you don't have time for breakfast or get stuck in traffic, having those extra few minutes in bed that seems like a good idea but makes you stressed as you're constantly battling not to be late for work, taking the same route at the same time to work every day that makes you feel like a robot or leaving work too late to do any shopping or errands on the way home.

Once you've got your list - make a change in at least one of them! (And, if you want, email me to let me know what you've changed and how it's helped you!).
